On August 6th, Marshall and I started a nine day road trip. It was amazing. I haven’t done a road trip since Kenan drove with me from Los Angeles to San Antonio when I moved to Manhattan and that was way back in 2008!
We stopped in El Paso, Tucson, Phoenix, Palm Springs, Corona, Downey, Redondo Beach, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon and ended in Big Bend before coming home. It sounds like a lot, because it was a lot. Both Marshall and myself are very meticulous when it comes to certain things. We literally printed out a 4 page itinerary that had what time we left, how many miles we would drive, how long it would take, spots to stop at along the way, etc.
After all of it was said and done the trip was a total success. Even with all the driving we did, we still had fun. We had talked about going to an island and staying 6 days at an all inclusive resort, but decided against it. This was a much better idea. We saw a lot of things in the United States neither of us had before, I got to visit my friend in the hospital (which meant a lot to me), Marshall got to meet even more cousins that I have, we learned we actually can stand being in a car together for 11 hours and we actually did everything we wanted and stayed under our budget.
The next time you want to take some time off, I’d suggest a road trip. No one does this anymore and it really was a blast.
