There is a phrase in Hollywood “bad press is still good press.” I never agreed with it. I still don’t. I’ve always believed that as a woman I should never give someone a reason to talk badly about me. Does that mean it won’t happen? Of course not. I’m not ignonrant. The more accomplished I become the more people will talk about me, both good and bad. It’s just how life works. Not even Mother Theresa can go through life without some haters.

I don’t update my website regularly like I should, but it’s not a priority like it used to be when I had my title. Now my posts are more about the rare appearances or speaking engagements I will make, Guadalupe Home, my personal life, and it has become more of a blog and less of a means to update people about the different things I am doing.

Today I received a threatening/hate filled message through my website. This has never happened before. Some would joke that now I’m relevant. I’m not laughing about it.

During my reign, I joined a campaign called NOH8. It was my decision to do a shoot to show my support for this cause. Was my support controversial? Sure it was, especially since it was my personal decision to do it during my reign. Is it equally controversial considering I am now Chair of a charity that is a program of Catholic Charities. Some would say so, but I don’t believe it is. And I also don’t think any of this is a reason to threaten me.

We all have our own opinions. Mine should not matter any more than the person next to me. I have an opinion and that is all it is. My opinion. You have yours. I’m not here to debate equal rights and I’m not here to debate anyone’s take on The Bible. It’s not worth the time or energy. But I will say this:

I do not regret supporting NOH8. I do not think I’m going to hell for doing so. And anyone who thinks it is perfectly okay to threaten me, say their name is “God” and judge me should really reconsider what they are doing. If I died right now I’d be happy with everything I’ve done in life and the people I have loved and helped. I am a good person. And everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Mine just happens to be I CHOOSE TO LOVE EVERYONE EQUALLY without judgment or prejudice of any kind.

This past weekend I was honored to host an amazing non-profit event. Two wonderful organizations (the Monte Cristo Center and VOS) came together to help children who can use assistance and benefit from the services and items made available to them.

It reminded me just how much I miss emceeing events, such as this one. I met so many great people who are happy to help others, I was able to make new friends, learn and educate myself on different issues in San Antonio, and there is something about being in front of a live audience and on a stage with a mic that I sincerely miss.

I cannot wait to graduate from school now. Once I do that, I know I’ll be able to emcee more events. And I can’t wait to find a job at a television station and get back in front of a camera. I miss the adrenaline rush. And I miss being as active in the community.

As a former pageant queen, I can understand the nerves that occur when you have to strut on a stage in a bikini and heels. I trained with a personal trainer for months before I did it, so I get it. HOWEVER, I am not okay with seeing someones rib cage. Being healthy and toned is one thing, but when I can see her pelvic bone pertruding from her left thigh and her entire rib cage I just cringe. This woman is absolutely beautiful, she really is. But someone needs to tell her to look more healthy. This is not an image Miss USA 2011 should be for young girls. As attractive as this woman is I really hope someone tells her she is taking her work outs and eating habits too far and this is not healthy.

On Thursday, December 2nd at 6:00 pm, the Parade of Kettles participants will debut their kettles at the historic Emily Morgan Hotel. The debut will be the official kick off to the second annual Parade of Kettles and on that day the online donations can begin. It will also give the public a chance to see which companies and local celebrities will be competing, as well as view the different designs on each kettle up close and personal. 

Last year April Ancira raised the most money. Will she win again? Only time will tell … wait … I mean, I hope not! I refuse to come in second again and with your help I will be just like The Salvation Army and continue “Doing The Most Good!”

Last year I was blessed to be a part of the first ever Parade of Kettles in San Antonio, Texas. The Parade of Kettles began as a group of local celebrities or “Who’s Who” along with well known companies each doing their best to raise funds for The Salvation Army. Each person or company decorated their own kettle and had an online donation link on The Salvation Army website. At the last hour, I came in second place to April Ancira losing by $100.00. I’m proud to say I was referred to as The Little Mexican That Could during that campaign.

This year I was asked again to participate and even more well known individuals and companies have joined to make this year even better. With that said, I’m going to need even more help so I can come in first! (On December 2nd we will unveil our kettles and announce the companies and individuals participating. More details on that ceremony will be coming at a later time.)

Over the Thanksgiving weekend, I’ll be decorating my kettle. This year I’m going to name it The Little Kettle That Could, slightly changing my nickname from last year. I also plan on creating a few flyers to leave in some local businesses to generate more awareness to the campaign. Today the January 2010 issue of Latin Connection magazine came out and I’m pleased to announce that yours truly is on the cover! I am sincerely thankful for the opportunity to grace the cover and hope that this is the beginning of many more.

Thank you to Wayne Zamora the Editor of Latin Connection for giving me this opportunity, to Angela Michelle for always being an amazing photographer, Desiree Cervantes for being the best photoshoot assistant, Alex Trey for being wonderfully supportive and Tami Crawford for making sure my make up is always fabulous. And of course a special thanks to my family and friends, because they always inspire me to keep pushing myself to do more.

The results are in for The Salvation Army red kettle campaign and I’m pleased to announce that I came in second place! I was able to raise over $1,000.00 in contributions and lost by less than $200.00. I am so thankful for everyone who helped me with this endeavor and supported The Salvation Army, which is a truly wonderful charity that I whole heartedly love.

I may only be 25, however I believe the fact that I came in second place and competed with large companies, celebrities and even the Mayor of San Antonio is a testament that persistance does pay off. I most definitely fulfilled my nickname of “The Little Mexican That Could” and I’m pleased to say that.

Back in November, I sat down with Karla Blanco of La Prensa for an interview. Sometimes I get a little behind on the press that I do, so I’m just now posting the article that came out in the newspaper.
