Life section of the San Antonio Express News. I am honored, as well as thankful, to help bring attention to non-profit organizations trying to make the world a better place. Thank you to the San Antonio Express News for the lovely photos and media coverage!

This photo is from Fandango. To the right of me is Hattie Poole (co-founder of Guadalupe Home), Steve Saldaña (President of Catholic Charities) and Carmen Drury (Drury Hotels). Guadalupe Home would not be what it is today if it were not for these amazing people.

This photo is from the Cystic Fibrosis gala. The second from the left is my friend Harriet. Harriet and I helped volunteer at this event through PRSSA. Ironically, I have supported Cystic Fibrosis in the past with my Miss Latina World title at the Tower Run they have annually. It’s nice to see familiar faces and also help another wonderful cause.

Regardless of whether or not I have a crown on my head, or I’m wearing a sash, I will always be eager to help others. If there is one thing I learned from being a former title holder that I will always treasure, it is learning how much I love non-profit work. Helping those in need, making a difference in the community and starting a legacy of my own are extremely important to me.

This Saturday (February 20, 2010), I am happy to help the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Lone Star Chapter celebrate their 25th Annual Tower Climb and Run event at the Tower of Americas.  The goal is to raise money and awareness about cystic fibrosis. I will be a celebrity guest and volunteering at the event in my sash and crown.

Check-in and timing chip pick-up will begin at 6:30 A.M. At 7:30 A.M. the San Antonio Fire Department (SAFD) and the non-competitive runners and climbers will go. Then starting at 8:00 A.M. the competitive runners and climbers will go and this group will set off in waves allowing 15 minute intervals for each wave of participant.

This annual event raises money and awareness about Cystic Fibrosis, an incurable genetic lung disease affecting about 30,000 children and adults in the United States and 70,000 world-wide.
